Delicious Vegan Italian Comfort Food 🍽️ - Edit
We first came here for brunch, and although parking was a little tricky to find, it was totally worth it! Everything was delicious, especially the breakfast calzone with potatoes and tofu. We came back on another trip for dinner and tried the garlic knots, Mamacita pizza, and eggplant parm sandwich. Everything was amazing, and the food came out quickly. Definitely put this spot on your list!

Cute little Italian place! Service was perfect. It's hard to do vegan Italian right but, everything we tried was delicious & they have gluten free options that are equally as good. Will go back! (Not pictured: garlic knots 🤤 and the Buffalo Calabrese Cauliflower)!

A Vegan Italian Dream - Edit
Had lunch here and I didn’t want it to end. 100% vegan Italian, and every dish stood completely on its own — rich, perfectly executed pasta, full of flavor. Cozy spot, great for a relaxed meal. Already thinking about my next visit to LA just to come back.

Pura Vida - Edit
We enjoyed our experience at this restaurant and loved the atmosphere. The food we ordered was presented beautifully. The pasta dish flavors were good and well-considered. We weren’t impressed by the Caesar salad and would probably skip ordering that next time. Our only gripe was that it felt like there wasn’t a substantial amount of higher-protein options available to order.

Freshly Made Italian? Yes Please! - Edit
Pura Vita is one of my favorite restaurants in Los Angeles. I usually get sat in the back amongst the two breathtaking prints of Italy in New York.
Read moreThe service is pleasant and fast. And the food, come on! Fresh, flavorful, and the textures of their pastas are dreamy! Highly recommend the Caccio e Pepe, Black Magic Lasagna, and cheesecake when they have it!

DELICIOUS - Edit
Love the many options and the vegan cheese is so good. My non vegan dad was blown away and said he’d never be able to tell it wasn’t vegan.

Birthday dinner w friends - Edit
I spent my birthday here with some friends and it was so lovely. I loved the candle-lit ambience and the food and wine was spot on. They even “surprised” me with a slice of dessert with a candle. 🥰

Best Vegan Italian - Edit
I love this place and come every time I am in the area. I always get the garlic knots, animal lovers calzone, and the carbonara. Animal lovers (a bunch of meats) and carbonara (butter, eggs, bacon) are both pretty much the most non vegan meals ever, so I was a little concerned the first time I tried it, but I was blown away by how amazing these are. They 100% taste amazing and you can't even tell that these things are vegan (non vegans can't tell either). I always plan on trying new things when I come, but I never do because I arrive and all I want is those three things.

Best Italian in So Cal, so many delicious options!! Especially fond of their outlandishly oversized calzones and variety of delicious appetizers. The arancini pictured below is a specialty item available only for a limited time, so be sure to get out there soon if you’d like to try!

Fabulous Plant-based Italian - Edit
Chose this based on PlantStrong podcast and it was beyond expectations. Tom, our server, gave great advice and we loved everything. Fritto Misto was great starter. Both entrees were amazing and hard to tell they were plant-based - Campanelle and Puttanesca Polpettine (right amount of heat enhanced the flavor depth).
Read moreIt only got better with desserts- Cookie Sundae and a “special” for Easter, Torta di Mandorle.

Would definitely recommend!!

I tried the mushroom pizza, Sicilian crab cakes, pasta, garlic knots and Margarita pizza. Okay, so I didn't eat all of this. LOL! Shared the dishes with my non-vegan family members and they too were super impressed.

I liked the chickpea fritters and loved the Greek goddess salad and tiramisu. The spaghetti carbonara and the buongiorno calzone were only OK. This was pretty expensive.

The overall best pizza place - Edit
When you rate a restaurant, the food is the main focus, however, everying else is taken into account. The food here is among the best I had in my life, the environment is amazing, the service was genuine and excellent. The price is the only thing you might want to watch out - it is worth every penny though.

Great Italian spot - Edit
I’ve been here twice and was so excited to try their desserts both times, but by the time I sampled the appetizers and had my entree I was too full!! So I can’t speak to those, but the rest of the food is great. Love seeing vegan mozzarella sticks on a menu!!

Sad RB closed - Edit
Pura Vita will always have a special place in my heart. I was really upset to learn the Redondo Beach location has closed – that was my go-to spot whenever I was visiting friends in the South Bay. Growing up in an Italian family, my comfort foods have always been the classics: pizza, pastas with pesto or rich cream sauces, and anything with ricotta. It’s not easy to find vegan versions that actually hit those nostalgic notes, but Pura Vita pulled it off again and again.
Read moreTheir cashew ricotta was a total lifesaver for my Italian cravings – rich, creamy, and satisfying in a way most vegan ricottas just aren’t. I tried several different pastas and Neapolitan-style pizzas over my visits, and everything was phenomenal: hearty, flavorful, and clearly made with care. The whole experience of eating outside, enjoying good wine and beautiful vegan Italian food by the beach, felt really special every time.
I doubt I’ll make it to the West Hollywood location anytime soon, but I’m genuinely grateful I got to experience Pura Vita while they were at the beach. If you have a chance to visit one of their remaining locations and you miss “real” Italian comfort food, especially ricotta, creamy sauces, and proper pizza, don’t skip it.
Pros: cashew ricotta, cashew mozzarella
Cons: closed their redondo beach location
